I am the Security Officer at the Armenise-Goldenson building link at Harvard Medical School. I’ve worked at the University for 22 years. I was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in East Cambridge, MA.

How did you get into this profession?
My grandfather on my mom’s side was a bodyguard. My dad’s uncle on his mom’s side was a police officer. And my brothers worked part time as security officers.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy hearing about new discoveries at HMS and talking to the lab personnel about how they make their discoveries. I also like getting to know people from a variety of different countries and learning from them.

Who or what most inspires you?
My faith. I wouldn’t be here doing what I do without it. The nuns at Sacred Heart School in East Cambridge in particular have made a great difference in my life.

What are the traits you most value in others?
Spirit, individuality and honesty.

What do you do for fun?
I like all Boston sports, the television shows Nova and NCIS: DC, and the type of music that makes one’s soul come alive. I also enjoy cooking—anything I can make up that my children like to eat.

What do you feel most passionately about? What some of the changes you’d most like to see in the world?
Improving the problem of climate change. Also, social changes that get and keep more families together. It would be nice to have one day a week for everyone spend with their family, with no work at all on that day—like it was fifty years ago.
