Sleep 101

Dr. Rogulja will give a broad overview of the neuroscience of sleep – including what we know about the physiology, brain circuits, cells and molecular mechanisms involved, the ways that sensory information is prevented from arousing the brain during sleep, and what happens biologically when there is sleep loss. She will briefly share how her lab uses fruit flies to study sleep and highlight recent discoveries on the impact of sleep loss on the gut. She will end by highlighting the big open questions in this field and discussing how basic research on sleep could improve our understanding of various health problems.
