Our perception of volition draws a line between behaviors we consider medical symptoms that are not our fault, and behaviors for which we are open to praise and blame. Alice Flaherty will discuss research on disorders of voluntary action, conditions which range from depression and addiction to parkinsonism and dystonia. She and her colleague and patient Isabelle Chopin will talk about the subjective experience of these conditions and their treatment.

This series features clinicians and patients discussing the lived experience of people with neurological and psychiatric disorders. We hope to spark conversations on the human impact of basic science research & inspire new patient-centered research ideas.
