I am interested in how the exquisite complexity of neural circuitry arises during development – and how early errors in that wiring, even if relatively subtle, can have potentially profound and lasting effects on brain function. Using molecular genetics and neuroanatomical approaches, I am studying the development of reciprocal connections in the mouse auditory system between the peripheral sense organ and the central nervous system. This work will help us understand how the auditory system develops and how central inputs to the cochlea modulate auditory input. Furthermore, it will further our understanding of how axons interact with each other in order to successfully wire up the nervous system.
In addition to my research, I am also involved in the departmental committees on diversity and inclusion, focused on science outreach to the public and students in our local area.
