My research investigates the bidirectional communication between the gut microbiota and the brain, focusing on how gut microbial composition is associated with individual differences in memory, emotional learning, mood, and anxiety in adult humans. I also explore the gut microbiota as an underlying factor in the relationship between early life adversity and memory performance in adulthood. Additionally, I am deeply interested in advancing our understanding of women’s health. I plan to start dedicating my research to studying the unique impact that the gut-brain connection has on women’s midlife health.
I am Chilean and completed my PhD in Barcelona. Outside of research, I am a proud dog mom and a passionate lindy-hop dancer.
