Ivan Coto Hernandez
Imaging Scientist / Department of Otolaryngology

I am currently Instructor in Mass Eye and Ear. I studied Nuclear Physics in Cuba and received my Master Degree in 2011. My research interest is focused on the development of imaging tools for biomedical research. During my Ph.D., I was trained in developing super-resolution microscopy, under the mentorship of Dr. Giuseppe Vicidomini, a world leader in super-resolution microscopy. During my doctorate studies, I gained expertise in hardware and software development, sample preparation, and image processing methods to further enhance the performance of conventional microscopes. Later, I completed postdoctoral training on Paris-Sud University combining stimulated emission depletion microscope with supercritical angle fluorescence detection to achieve subwavelength axial sectioning on biological samples. Currently, I work at Mass Eye and Ear and Harvard Medical School applying my imaging skillset to aid discovery relevant to human health. Over the next several years, I seek to make a meaningful impact in the field of neuroimaging by applying my expertise in emerging imaging techniques to advance scientific knowledge in the field.
