Stress is the strongest risk factor for several neuropsychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder, yet most individuals maintain psychological and physiological functioning in the face of adversity. This psychological trait, known as resilience, is not simply the absence of susceptibility but rather an active process that involves adaptive behavioral, cellular, and molecular mechanisms. My research goal is to uncover the molecular signatures that make some individuals more vulnerable to stress and find ways to promote resilience.
