Neurocognitive Basis of Reading: Development, Difficulties, and Intervention

Dr. Christodoulou leads the Brain, Education, and Mind (BEAM) Lab, conducting research on the brain and behavior links underlying reading development, difficulty, and intervention. Dr. Christodoulou’s lab addresses topics at the intersection of educational, clinical, and research contexts. Her team’s research includes investigations of the ways in which students struggle with reading, how readers vary in their benefit from reading intervention, how reading challenges co-occur with related challenges such as ADHD or math disability, and how extended time out of school (e.g., summer vacation) impacts reading outcomes. Students with both developmental (e.g., dyslexia) and acquired reading difficulties (e.g., after hemispherectomy) are the focus of these studies.
