Jia Liu’s group at Harvard brings together researchers from Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, and Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering to develop advanced nanoelectronic, cyborg engineering, genetic and genomic engineering, imaging and computational tools and platforms for digitizing the dynamics of biological systems. Specifically, we are working on tools and platforms capable of mapping and controlling multimodal single-cell activities across time and space from a statistically significant number of cells in living organisms and behaving animals with cell-type specificity. Leveraging our experimental and computational expertise, we aim to study the relationship between population dynamics of single-cell multimodal physiology and gene expression, and whole-organ/organism level functions and dysfunctions to address questions in brain-machine interface, neuroscience, cardiac diseases and developmental disorders.
