Our laboratory carries out research on neurological disorders, both neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric, with a view towards identifying new types of therapies. In general, our work can be divided into two categories. The first utilizes iPSC-derived neurons or, sometimes, muscle cells, to identify changes that occur in the earliest stages of diseases such as Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Parkinson’s disease and schizophrenia. The second is based on the observation that aging is a major regulator of neurodegenerative disease. To understand the aging process in more detail, we use parabiotic mice and analytical methods including single cell RNA sequencing of brain cells.
